Union Signs Contract: CIFR and firefighters pleased with results

Camano Island Fire and Rescue and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 4033 reached an agreement for a new three year contract.

“It was really productive,” said Union President and Paramedic Ryan White. “It was a good experience and both sides, I felt, worked together to come up with a good, fair, and equitable agreement for everyone.”

The contract negotiations were completed without the aid of an arbitrator or outside legal help, and in six sessions over a seven month period of time.

White said the relationship between the Union and the District has been good and continues to improve with every contract signing. “Both sides continue to be open to new ways of working together,” said White.

CIFR Chief Mike Ganz was also pleased with the negotiations and resulting contract.

“It’s a great spirit of cooperation between the Administration, Commissioners, and Firefighters Union,” said Ganz. “Despite the difficult changes we have faced as a District, we all strive to do what’s best for the community, and to provide the highest level of service possible. We’re grateful to our Union and our Firefighters for their dedicated service.”
