Mission Vision and Values

 

Preamble:

 

The primary purpose of any fire department is to protect and serve its community's lives, property, and environment.  To better accomplish this, Camano Island Fire and Rescue has updated our Mission, Vision, and Values to bring clarity to the processes and relationships (both internal and external) necessary to fulfill our mission.  It is our goal that the following document provides the foundation for what we do and how we do it.

 

Mission Statement:

 

Working together to safely protect our community's lives and property.

We fulfill this mission through high quality:

Emergency Medical Services

Fire Protection

Technical Rope and Marine Rescue

Disaster Preparedness

Fire Prevention and Public Education

 

What does it mean?

Working together -- involves providing a coordinated effort and service by District personnel (paid, part time, volunteer, and staff) and appropriate partners (ICSO, SCIS, Mutual Aid agencies, Red Cross, US Navy, auxiliaries, tax payers, etc) to prevent or mitigate harm.

 

Safely -- means using best practices to avoid putting the community, our partners and ourselves at unnecessary risk. 


Safely  --
necessarily includes public education, comprehensive training, and mitigating unsafe situations.

 

Protect -- includes mitigating, minimizing, isolating, educating, inspecting, pre-planning and responding.

 

Our community -- consists of those we serve including Camano Island residents, visitors to the island or its waters, boaters, fire district members / employees, and partners.

 

Our community's lives -- refers to the health, well-being, and comfort that make up our quality of life.

 

Our community's property -- are those public and private things that we are called to protect and includes dwellings, vehicles, pets, public lands, forest, water ways, roads, utilities, businesses, fire stations, fire vehicles, and all their contents entrusted to us by the community.

What type of organization do we want to be?  What do we want to be known for within our community?  Within our industry?  A vision statement provides a picture of the type of organization we wish to become.  Working towards a vision is a journey.  As we begin to embrace our mission statement, embody our values, and increase our understanding of our community¡¯s needs, the picture of who we want to be will evolve.
