Stanwood Camano Incident Support volunteers function in two separate groups. One group is made up of chaplains, the other is made up of support officers.
The volunteer chaplains role
SCIS chaplains are carefully recruited and trained to offer a ministry of comfort and care to victims and their families as well as to emergency responders. SCIS chaplains are required to have background checks and meet rigorous training expectations before certification. In that the mission is to provide emotional and spiritual support, the chaplains must also be an approved representative of his/her Christian denomination or church. Please see our Chaplain Profiles
The volunteer support officers role
SCIS officers are carefully recruited and trained to respond to long term fire and law enforcement scenes. They are trained in use of the support apparatus to provide
much needed rehabilitation and respite for on scene emergency responders as well as victims families.
SCIS works alongside the Red Cross, as well as the Department of Emergency Management to assist displaced individuals at structure fires and natural disasters.
