Emergency Management Related Training

A number of state and federal agencies sponsor a wide range of individual and group training courses.  These courses come in a variety of formats including on-line self study and traditional classroom instruction.  Most courses are offered free of charge to qualified students.  Some courses are eligible for college credit.

 

Upcoming Training

INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM - ICS Training:

ICS 300.  Stanwood Camano Fire will host an ICS 300 class on 24 and 25 March, at the Stanwood Fire Station (Station 99).  Attendance both days is required.  The information flyer and application :  Class Flyer   or for information e-mail: msimmons@camanofire.com . If you wish to register for the class, please contact me to be put on the roster.

The Skagit Co. DEM will offer an ICS 300 class on 5 and 6 March at the DEM office/ 911 Center, 2911 E. College Way, Ste B, Mount Vernon, WA  98273

ICS 300 and 400 training opportunities are available through the Snohomish County DEM.  Their 2012 training schedule follows.  All classes will be held at either the Snohomish county DEM office  or at the Emeergency Services Coordinating Office (ESCA).  For further information contact: stephen.hagberg@snoco.org

Stanwood and Camano Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Training:

The next EOC volunteer meeting will be scheduled after the New Year. Whn the date is determined it will be posted here.  There is a continuing need for persons to help staff the Stanwood or Camano Island EOCs during activations  -  No previous experience is necessary.  Questions?  e-mail:  msimmons@camanofire.com or dial: 360-387-1512.

Camano Preparedness Group:  The next meeting of the Camano Preparedness Group ischeduled for 18 January 2012 is CANCELLED DUE TO SNOW AND TRAVEL SAFETY

 

"CERT Class Cancelled" 

The CERT class scheduled to start on 13 October has been cancelled.  The cancellation was necessary due to the low number of applications received.


"Are You Ready,"  An In-depth Guide to Citizen Preparedness:

The Fire Department will offer the "Are You Ready" class at the places and times listed below.  Are You Ready is a step by step approach to identifying the local hazards, their possible impact, and emergency planning for you and your family.  for questions or to reserve a spot in the class call 360-638-1512 or e-mail: msimmons@camanofire.com.  Classes are scheduled:

"Map Your Neighborhood" Facilitator's Course

Neighborhoods prepared for emergencies and disasters save lives and property.  Learn the 9 steps to take immediately following a disaster, develop a nieghborhood skills and equipment inventory, identify areas of concern in your neighborhood, plan for neighbors that need extra help.  Questions call or e-mail.  The classes are scheduled:

United States Fire Administration - USFA

As an entity of the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency, the mission of the US Fire Administration is to foster a solid foundation in prevention, preparedness, and response by providing national leadership to local fire and emergency services.

Among the services provided by the USFA is on-line training.  As courses are announced or changed, the information will be posted here.

 

Washington Emergency Management Division

The Mission of the Washington Military Department Emergency Management Division is to "minimize the impact of emergencies and disasters on the people, property, environment,and economy of Washington State".  The EMD offers a variety emergency management related training and exercises.  Their 2010 training schedule can be downloaded here.

 

Other Local Training

Other training courses are offered locally by a number of organizations including Regional Health Districts, American Red Cross Chapters, and others.  This is a constantly changing list.  When information about these courses becomes available it will be linked below
